If You Woke Up This Morning, You Still Have Time...

"The real fate worse than death is the probability that what we are now, we'll remain the rest of our lives." Don Aslett, Author

Time to make those changes and become the person you always wanted to be. Time to change your life, your direction - finish that project, go on that trip, take that class, start that diet, write that book, eliminate that bad habit, declutter that room, or meet that special person.

A friend of mine once asked how did I get into flying. My answer, I made a phone call. Sometimes the first step is very simple, very small. A small step leads to another step and then another. Not all of the following steps will be easy. You may even find you are going in the wrong direction. Remember, you can always change direction. Getting started is the hard part.

A while ago, I enrolled in a yoga class at a local gym. I am sort of a remedial beginner. By the time I lurched into Down Dog, which looked more like Sick Puppy, the rest of the class was three poses ahead and balancing in Tree Pose. I tried but my version looked more like Broken Branch. I decided to try some free online yoga sessions. I can go at my own pace, pause the video when needed. And my dog is pretty non-judgmental. Sometimes it's a matter of simply changing strategies to follow your new direction.

Several years ago I went on a cruise to Alaska alone. Could not find anyone who wanted to go with me. Small ship with only 47 people not counting the crew. I had never kayaked before and this was a hiking-kayaking adventure cruise. So, I hiked and kayaked. I even kayaked alone. The sea was dark and still. There was the sounds of birds and the water lapping against my small craft. I couldn't see what critters were swimming beneath the smooth surface. The cruise ship was a dot in the distance. A bit scary, but there I was kayaking by myself in Alaska! Fabulous!

The point is to have the adventure. Give it a try. Maybe it won't work for you, but you will never know unless you try. People thrive on experiences. This is how you gain confidence, find out about yourself and what you can do, who you can be. At the very least, you will have great stories to tell!

I was about to embark on another adventure, and a friend said, "What if something happens to you?" I replied, "What if nothing ever happens to you?"
